Central Province · tea country
Nuwara Eliya
Sri Lanka's tea heartland at about 1,900 m — cool, green and often misty, with colonial-era architecture and endless estates.
Tea-country town, Central Province → Hill-country town, Uva Province
A scenic private transfer linking Sri Lanka's two best-known hill towns, past tea estates and down through Haputale into Ella.
The journey
The distance is short but the roads are slow, which is part of the appeal. You leave Nuwara Eliya's cool climate, pass through plantation country and descend toward Haputale before dropping into Ella. The views change quickly — estate rows, forest patches and long valley drops — so the drive feels longer than the map suggests, in a good way.
This route runs in both directions. Travelling the other way — Ella to Nuwara Eliya — uses the same vehicle options and the same pricing approach.
Along the way
This route is short enough that a stop or two turns it into a proper morning out rather than a transfer. Haputale is a good choice for lunch.

FAQ
Around two to two and a half hours with light stops. The road is winding and often single-lane, so the map distance is misleading — we plan for the driving time, not the kilometres.
Yes, and many guests do. The rail line runs through the same hill country. A common plan is to train between Nanu Oya and Ella while your chauffeur meets you in Ella with your luggage.
There are drop-offs and switchbacks on this route. If your group is sensitive to winding roads, tell us — we can choose the gentler approach and keep the stops to open viewpoints.
