Southern Province · national park
Yala
Sri Lanka's most famous national park, known for leopards, elephants and a landscape of scrub, lagoons and rock outcrops.
Hill-country town, Uva Province → Wildlife area, southern dry zone
A private transfer from Ella down into the dry zone for a Yala safari, timed so you arrive in time for an afternoon or next-morning game drive.
The journey
The road drops out of the hills quickly, changing from tea country to scrub and paddy within an hour. Most guests overnight at Tissamaharama or the edge of the park, because it puts you at the gate early. A private car means the safari jeep, park entry and timing can all be arranged around your arrival rather than around a bus timetable.
This route runs in both directions. Travelling the other way — Yala National Park (Tissamaharama) to Ella — uses the same vehicle options and the same pricing approach.
Along the way
Ravana Falls is the usual first stop and fits naturally. Budduruwagala adds about half an hour and is worth it if you are interested in the carvings.
